I think he means the Turbo Heat shield?
it can be removed but it is there to stop the heat being transferred to the intercooler as well as directing air onto the turbo to cool it down.
i was thinking about removing mine as a bolt has fallen out and the shield has started to rattle, i would just put another bolt in but the thread on the turbo has disintergrated.
hope that helps,

Well if it's the turbo heat shield, I'd say keep it on. You can run without it, for example in your situation, there's not much you can do about a knackered thread, but I'd always leave stuff like that on if you can. After all, it's right under the intercooler really, so not a good idea to have the turbo radiating heat all over the shop.

Replace a tmic with a fmic i would guess that it's not quite so important. Because the ram air to the cooler is right at the front. Saying that the temperatures from the turbo a very high and any hoses near by may well be effected by such heat over a long period of time. Also with the car sat there for a period of time on tick over the fmic will i'm sure be effected by heat soak all be it on a much smaller level than the tm. Me i think i'd still wrap the turbo. Will keep the under bonnet temps down. So that can only be a good thing.
