hi can anyone tell me if a down pipe from v5 1999 will fit an my96 sti?cheers

Yes, as long as turbo was in stock position for both cars. Are you talking OE or aftermarket? If aftermarket make sure connection to centre section matches what you have now.

its a hks down pipe,not bought it yet as wasnt sure if it would fit

They are interchangable as Richard says but the M/Y 99 has the Lambda sensor in the D/P close by the turbo end so that needs blanked as the M/y 96 has the sensor in the headers collector.
