Default daft question probably but

would i know if my engine had gone **** up.

had some problems with the car over the last couple of weeks and now the car is in the garage waiting to be looked at due to the cel light coming on and staying on doing some flashing and then staying on again.

there is no strange banging noises from engine and no smoke coming from anywhere and the fans cut in from cold straight away, so hoping this is a sensor thats gone or could it be something more serious?

any help appreciated

it's a 1994 sti version 1 by the way

sounds like engine coolant temp sensor has failed.
