Phil - What car is it (i.e. model year, type). Also, what do you mean by 'full' exhaust - Decat ? Including Downpipe ?
Should be able to help then....

It's a '00 uk turbo. When I say full I do mean everything including the downpipe and no cats.
What sort of bhp gains would I see by just replacing the centre section (for a straight though piece) and back box?
p.s. What oes the MY** stand for, that everyone uses when describing the cars age?

The MY00 MAF sensor is a bit more delicate than my old 98, but a panel filter will be fine with it IIRC. I don't believe a remap is strictly necessary, in terms of safety - though its always advisable to use a knocklink, and maybe AFR setup to keep an eye on things once you start to alter the air flow much (i.e. not really necessary if you're keeping the Downpipe cat, but recommended beyond this, I'd say).
You should see some reasonable gains - maybe around 20bhp for a complete decat and panel. You'd obviously get more if the car was then remapped, as it could use this potential more. With a decat and panel, I made 282 with a remap on my 98, (the remap also allowed the boost to be lifted).
Take a look at www.wildsworld.co.uk, under the red 98 impreza section if you'd like more details...
