de-cat and MOT?

de-cat and MOT?
Having a custom made exhaust done on Saturday, I was wondering, should I de-cat?
I have a my93/94 import I was told (but he is not sure) that the MOT can be tested fine on a de-cat import pre 94, is this correct?
If I do go for de-cat will the MOT be ok?
Last is it worth de-catting? Will it improve performance, and will it affect the car in terms of noise 2 much, or does this have nothing to do with the cat?
many thanks

Its well worth removing the front cat, it makes a massive difference, and the middle obviously helps too.. If you want to be safe keep the middle cat (you'll still get through a UK MOT) and scrap the front one.

The my93 only has one cat anyway in the downpipe. The "other" is just a silencer.
de catting will improve the performance, can cause overboosting though in cold conditions which can be fun (especially if you hit fuel cut!). It will also make it sound a bit meatier (mine did anyway)
Check the vosa website for information with regards the imports and the mot. I think it may be upto 95 for an import but check the website.
Does the custom exhaust include the downpipe or is it just going to attach to the original? If it is going to attach to the original, then maybe get a sports cat downpipe, still a vast improvement over standard, but will ease any mot fears.
