Question warning light

finally got round to de cating my 93wrx. on removing the old down pipe found the lamda had been welded in position just below the cat on the bottom bend. so bought a generic 2 wire lamda and connected back to the original wire. think that's ok. but the wire would not reach the far hole in the new down pipe so put it in the hole at the top (figured as long as it was in there wouldn't make a difference) but now after the car has warmed up when on boost a warning light appears looks like a pipe with squiggly lines above.
can some one plz tell me what ive cocked up this time !

cheers in advance

steve

A lambda sensor has to be before the CAT otherwise it will be reading gasses that have been treated by the CAT.

If the sensor was in the downpipe and after the CAT then its probably the Exhaust Gas Temp sensor.

I have a MY93 WRX and it has a 3-wire lambda sensor in the headers. Look under the drivers side at the front just behind the bumper.

How stupid do i feel now
so i have put a lambda sensor where ther should be temp sensor ?
does this sensor tell the ecu anything or is it just a " your cats on fire" light if the second can i just disconect and leave the lambda there as a plug ( a bloody expensive plug)?
