Default Buying My Second Scoob - It Smokes?

Guys,

Put a deposit down on a MY95 WRX import yesterday, 45k miles on the clock.

The guy said he had clutch, brakes and drivers side rocker gasket replaced because they all needed doing.

When we went for a test drive, and got back there was smoke coming from the left hand side of the engine. He said this was due to the new Rocker Gasket, because it was new and the car hadn't been run it was sort of 'burning in'.

Does thios sound right?

The smoke stopped after a while, he left it running for me to see.

I didn't see a problem with it, because new gaskets do smoke don't they? When i fitted a new exhaust to my old 206, the sealant i'd used caused a little smoke the first couple of times i started it up.

Cheers,
Steve

Forgot to add. The guy is a trader, and imports loads of Jap cars himself. He had 5 scoobs in there i looked at, but this one was the best.

The guy was sound.

Had a look at an STi he had in too, and the WRX was cleaner under the bonnet than the STi!

Had mine both changed last week because it was smoking badly. Picked it up from the garage pulled up on the drive and there was still smoke everywhere at first i thought the problem had'nt been fixed. I took it for a 30 mile run and and have had no smoking ever since . Think this was just a residue build up burning off on the manifold where it had been leaking previous.

Hope this helps.

Yeah. The guy said it was just where they lubricate it, the lubricant was burning off. Which sounded plausable to me, after me using Gum to seal the exhaust gasket i fitted on my 206 when i replaced the backbox.

perhaps its smoking because old is still leaking out?

If its white smoke, it should be as mentioned above.

I think they use a paste along with the gasket, and like said it could just be sealing it self.
