Car vibrates at 85mph ish??? Any ideas
Just got my scoob last week and whenever i take it up to 85mph it starts to vibrate like the wheels are unbalanced.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEEL BALANCING IS NOT THE PROBLEM AS IVE ALREADY HAD THIS CHECKED
It stops then if i take it up to about 100mph (Not that this is done often, and is safe when done so!)
I have been told that it could be the propshaft vibrating but i wouldnt of thought the propshaft is safe if it was vibrating.
Any ideas??

I assume you tried different tyre fitters to check the balance? I found some just wheel balance machines aren't calibrated properly and have went through 3 fitters before finding one that could get it right.
Anyway, have they checked that the alloy rims aren't bent?
Have you put the rear wheels on the front axle? If the vibration goes away or changes from the given speed, then it could suggest it's the wheel/tyre/balance combo.
If it does exactly the same thing then wheel bearing, propshaft, CV?
My gf's sister had nightmares with her car. Propshafts, bearings, CV's were all changed on her Megane. They even changed the front discs as they said they were warped and causing it. After 2 months and about 2 weeks of garage work, including rebalancing 5 times and 3 different tyre fitters I put the rear alloys on the front and the vibration pretty much went away.
We took it to another fitter and asked them to check the alloy - it was sh@gged. 4 new alloys later (same tyres) and the car is now perfect.
Moral is try the simple things first before ripping stuff off the car.
Good luck,
Stefan

Ill swap the wheels around when i get home time weekend and see of that makes a difference. The guy who does any major mechanical work on my cars (and i trust him) said that the wheels were balanced fine but like you say, they could be bent etc....
Ill have another look over the weekend.

I'd been saying to the gf's sister when she bought the car that her vibration (anything between 60-90) was either a unbalanced wheel, bent rim or oval tyre. First thing I suggested was to ask the garage to simply swap wheels.
They seemed more happy to replace the entire front end of the suspension first - their cost and in the end, she has some nice shiney new bits on the front of the car for free

I had this problem before an it turned out to be a knackered brake caliper duno why it was only happening at high speeds maybe try an see if one of your brake discs is hotter than the others after it happens.

Alister at Apex Auto's on the industrial estate, used him for ages. Very good mechanic and because i known him for a while, he can usually fit me in when i need to.
The nearest Subaru main dealer with a service garage is bout 3/4hr away. The one in abergele is only a showroom as far as im aware, but even that garage is a treck from wrexham tbf!
