Question Replacing smashed mirror on drivers-side wing mirror

Hi

Following a idiot coming way too close to my 00 Impreza yesterday, I want to replace the mirror.

Apparently Subaru sell them for approx £20...however it seems that getting the mirror in without breaking it is another matter. I don't want to have to buy a second hand door mirror unit if possible.

I've told the woman who hit me a want her to pay for a replacement mirror and so I am trying to keep the cost down to be fair

Has anyone replaced a mirror and how do I go about it please.

Thanks
Little'un

If the glass is still there and cracked, you can get replacement glass with sticky pads from halfords

i have used 2 halford ones on mine with no probs and they are much cheaper, and as you said, you want to keep the cost down, so what is the problem????

halfords dont make them, another company does, i think there "summit mirrors"

''I'm not having any old sh1te from Halfrauds on my scoob '' its a small piece of glass mate which does the same job as anything more expensive from subaru, if the unit isnt damaged and you want to be ''fair'' just get one from halfords with sticky pads... i promise nobody will laugh at you for having it on your scoob lol..can you even tell the difference?

Default mirror glass

i had some idiot do the same to me but it broke the whole thing , i went to the scrap yard and got another one with glass ..... BUT it was not the electric one so i had to strip it down , respray it and put the old motor back in the new case ... then for the glass to go in ... yes it broke right on the last corner . i went to subaru and got one about 6 quid for a bit of glass . i asked a subaru chap there what was the easiest way to put it in without breaking it he said trim the corners of the mirror and then slide it in ... it dont look bad and it dont move ... job done.
