Default Another De-Cat Question ?

Hi Chaps...

Got a 2001 WRX Bugeye, and currently still have the main downpipe cat section in place, but got rid of the rear 2 resonator boxes, and a Ninja back box on it.

Just bought a magnex decat downpipe off a top bloke on here, and need to fit it.

Just one or two things ?

I know the cel light will come on, but will that cause any running problems ?

Can it do any damage de-catting it and running it without a remap ?

or will it be ok, and just better when i eventually have the remap ?

Thanks.............

On the later models the EGT sensor flags up an error if removed, there is a fix that involves replacing the sensor with a resistor..

You wont need a remap, but a re-map will give you bigger gains.

i'd say you definately need a remap... not in a safe state to drive hard without one and those mods. The exhaust system is so much more free flowing you need to have fueling etc sorted to match that. Anymore than just a backbox and centre de-cat and your risking it.

get the cat in the up pipe sorted too before any remap. Limits boost levels as too higher egt's and it can break up with bits flying into the turbo.

Well i`ve fitted it.... lol

What a sodding nightmare..

After struggling to get the heat shield bolts undone, i then found that the shield doesnt come through the gap without removing the intercooler...

So took that off and it came out...Took all the top bolts to turbo out, which worried me, expected those to snap but all came out great.

Took all the other bolts out, dropped the exhaust and swopped the sensor over to the new magnex decat pipe. Fitted the pipe in place, bolted all up and then started on the heat shield mod to fit over the down pipe...

Did that and built it all up, intercooler back on and fired her up...SWEEEEEEEET...

Sounds absolutely fantastic...

Took it out for a run and its totally changed the car...The performance is better and the sound is just a throaty roar ..... So so sweet...

And, then CEL light has not come on (yet) so thats a bonus up to now.

I will be getting the remap, just waiting for my gauges to come i`ve ordered...

Oh, and it took me about 3 hours to do it....Didnt think it would be that long, but its a nightmare to do...lol

No , and i know i should have....

I couldnt get any in time....But picking some up next weekend, so will get it done as soon as poss...

There was a few pipes that what close, so i`ve tie rapped them all out of the way so the heat doesn`t affect them.

But i will be doing it...
