Default Another 2.5 thread

I know this gets asked a lot, but a question to the guys who HAVE done a 2.5 bottom end.

If i buy one from flat4online etc what else do i need to get?
I know i will need cambelt/oil pump etc but does anyone have a list?

Am going to run it on Apexi management, and the car it is going into is a 1993 WRX

Also what costs am i looking at AFTER buying the engine. (excluding blowing the gearbox etc)

Cheers

Hi Gary.

Just done this (you could have looked at my insured items list on the proposal form you sent me to make your life really easy) and the list I had from top to bottom assuming you are chasing 400x400 (or more) is:

Short block and uprated pistons (around £2000 in the UK)
Associated gaskets (+-£100)
ARP head stud kit (+-£150)
Injectors (+-£400 depending on size)
Exhaust manifold (Gruppe-s around £400)
Fuel pressure regulator (+-£170)
Fuel pump (+-£120)
Uprated clutch (Twin plate around £1200)
Turbo (GT30R, GT30 hybrid, TD05/6-20G etc) and fitting kit (varies wildly)
Front mount intercooler (probably) (hybrid £350)
Remap (Will have to speak to the Apexi guys)
Oils
Cambelt (+-£50)

Obviously you can ditch the bits you have already and of course prices will vary depending on the quality of the bits you go for... PM me if you want any more detail.

Cheers

You'll need to think about changing things like water pump(£60), cam belt and tensioner(£140),uprated oil pump(£160), fuel pump(£95).Thats befor you get into intercoolers, exhausts and the like! i did the same on my 95 turbo,it gets very expensive even without labor!!!

Tim

Sorry mate I was going to discuss this with you Sunday but you didn't stop long
Have a look on my thread in Projects. I think I listed most of the items needed towards the end of the thread.

Basically you'll need:
2.5 short engine.
Use the heads, sump, pipes, etc from your old engine.

Optional parts (I would recommend new ones)
Oil pump
Water pump
Oil cooler doughnut
Cam belt tensioner

Headgaskets
Various other seals and gaskets for sump return, inlet man. and exhaust man. water cross pipe and wather pump.
MY97> water cross pipe or modify your old one (To clear the extra breather)
Bung for extra breather
Sealant for the Sump and oil pump

Depending on how far you go and what turbo you use:
Injectors
Fuel reg. and parrallel lines
Fuel pump
A good clutch

All plus mapping of course.

Oil and filter change after run in on 0 boost and 4000revs for 1k miles

Tensioner should be OK to reuse as its pre98
You already have a 3 port soloniod
Warlbro fuel pump
Consider new engine mounts

Your injectors will be good for about 300HP, which on a 2.5 and td05-16g means only about 0.9 bar, so you won't need to get an external boost controller as the PFC will work up to 1.0 bar with the pre97 MAP sensor, so if budget is tight and you want to keep hold of the gearbox it can be mapped on the 380's.

Since the manifold is off it can be worth doing the parallel rails mod - about £50 in fuel injection hose, T pieces and clips, plus about £85 for a FSE regulator (or double that for a SX reg), with the regulator you can raise pressure to eek a bit more flow though the injectors.

As a minimum considering the pumps and belts, gaskets, O rings I'd say about an extra £500 on top of the engine, then add PFC and map then its up to you to do the fueling, injectors etc.

You could disconnect the actuator arm and run the engine in on the OE ECU.

Hi mate

Couldn't stay too long as i was supposed to be in Rusper before 1 o'clock to watch my mate banger racing (which he won!!!)

The car has already got a FMIC, walbro fuel pump, and full 3" exhaust system, and was going to get some 440cc injectors, although is it worth paying the extra and getting 550cc?

My engine mounts are old, so will fit uprated ones anyway.

The plan is to get the Apexi installed on the 2.0 engine and get it running roughly how i want it, the swap the bottom ends and get it mapped again

Cheers for the advice guys, will have a look at Dyney's project thread aswell.

I would look no further than Mark (Mark@lateralperformance.co.uk) for any engine bits, he always has stuff in stock unlike Flat 4... and his prices suit me

I used to shop around for engine bits but now only use Mark, good prices and next day delivery.

Sounds like a Bloody washing powder advert

440's will just about flow enough for the 16g, so thats , everyone likes a free upgrade

In that case either source a boost controller or get the Apexi MAP sensor if you want to run over 1.0 bar

Thumbs up

I have 440's on my 2.5 running the VF22 at upto 1.3 bar boost, the fuel pressure was upped to 3.5 bar and they seem to be coping very well.
