Default Is a 93 import too old ?!?!? BIMTA worth it ?

65,000 miles, White. BIMTA Certificate, Cat 1 Alarm, Tracker, Air conditioning, Alloy wheels. Active tracker til December, Full stainless steel exhaust, Big rear wing, new clutch with lightened flywheel by Roger Clark motorsport, recent cambelt change. 17" OZ alloys. With all bills and service history since imported to UK in 2003. Immaculate.£4,750. Is the BIMTA worth it, is the info they get in japan genuine or can it stil be fiddled ?

If the mileage is true and the engine and chassis numbers match up to the year and if it drives well with no engine check light etc then Yes

IMHO That price is disgusting! Shop around. And personally I would go for a standard car, less of a chance of it having had the knackers thrashed off it.

Just because it's got bit's on it don't be it's been ragged.
Mines got all the bits including uprated turbo, Apexi ECU, 330mm brakes etc..etc... and it spends most of it's time doing a short trip to work and back and runing the family around at the weeknd. The only time it get's driven 'briskly' is once a month to and from a meet.

Go look at it, if it's tidy and the paperwork is all there then go for it.
Don't worry whats been done to it in Japan.

Your better off buying a car that's been in the UK for a few years and has good UK service history. Then one that's just landed with doubtfull jap history.

Thats you.. But in general most cars that have been "modified" are also driven hard.. If you think that statement is a load of rubbish then you are clearly in denial.

You may be right, but can't the same be said for every Impreza on the road.

You'll only know by having a good look at it and checking out the history.
If it's been owned by an enthusiast, then the paper work and condition of tyres, bodywork and winderscreen will tell if it's been driven hard and genrally abused.

I think it's worth the risk to buy the right modded car, depends who and how they drive it. Mine is/was modified, did a couple of sprints and the rest of the time it was driven by Miss Daisy.

If its well looked after, serviced on a regular basis by somebody how knows what to do it's not a problem.

Or you could buy a standard car, thrashed from start to finish, driven like its stolen and it will be more reliable, because..........it's standard.

Of course it wont and thats not what I'm implying. Yes there are modified cars out there that are driven hard once in a while and looked after regardless of cost but unless the engine and box are being re-built after every track day its going to have excess wear.

well, just spoke to seller, garage, home bussiness, its been derestricted, he said its done via clocks, mechanical device, is that true, if so, different clocks are fitted??
it has FSH, everything, from import date, 3 mots to back up mileage,NO engine mods, shock horror, 1st one yet !!, it has the clutch and lightened flywheel as the guy knocked a tooth out racing someone, huf, so whilst gearbox out, clutch done, bil to prove, over £1000 he says, says its mint mint mint, his friend owned it since 2003,import date and when he was selling it, this guy wanted it to sell on !! he KNOWS he`ll get £4750 maybe budge £50 if i take cash, wonder if he`ll go to £4500 as thats what i`ll offer !!

BIMTA cert, its ont he screen too, dunno about that, is it a stamp or summut ?!?!

hows that sound ????

I think thats a lot of money for a '93, but then again if you go looking around you will struggle to find a clean example for cheap - but they do exist.

Almost 5k should get you a more recent year in my opinion, One thing i have learned with cars is that it never pays to rush into a purchase and rarely do you get a 'deal' which you are not able to find again or better within a month or two of looking.

If you are satisfied that you've done your research and the car is a minter, and you have seen enough examples to reasure yourself that this is the one for you then its well worth a purchase, but if its one of the first examples you have come across then it would pay to have a look at a few more before handing over your cash.

For the record - I currently from a 1993 WRX, have owned it for 2 years and put 10000 miles on it(50k when i bought it, now has 60k). I bought direct from japan after spending 4 months peering over auction sheets and chatting with the agent over there. Only things to go wrong with mine have been noisy water pump, which i replaced immediately and cambelt while i was at it, and the seal on the bottom of the power steering resevoir. I love the car to bits and would recommend buying one to anyone, no reason why they should not be good to 100k or more if in good condition when you buy it and you look after it.

I agree the price is WAY too high. I sold my 95WRX for 3500. Okay, the mileage was 88k, but it was a mint car throughout and drove beautifully. You can still see my car advert on Pistonheads. Go on, take a look. It's red. Advertised at £3700. Isn't she a beauty I still miss her dispite my Type R which will never replace her.

How about these cars, also on pistonheads right now:

Original speedline alloys,
Usual lighweight Ra spec,
Low ratio gearbox etc.
Kenwood MP3 player,

quick sale needed hence the price, no offers!
price does not reflect the standard of the car!

The problem is people THINK they are worth more than they actually are, and to make things worse if they wait long enough someone will pay the money.

But look at what your getting; a 13 year old car that isnt actually anything particularly rare or special?

Theres a White M reg RA in the trader for £3,995, I think that is too much too.

Whats the fasination with white?
