can i mix oil brands? will it really make any difference?
ive got a bit of a dilemma, i need to change the oil tomorrow (asap) as it has been on running in oil for a little too long now (1500 miles) however i ordered some oil a few days ago which a courier was instructed to leave outside the door for me (which they didnt) which means that i have 4 litres of good oil and left needing 0.5~ of a litre to do a full change...
now if i pop down to halfrauds first thing and get a litre of 15w50 to match the new oil anyway will it really make any difference?
Any advice helpful!
the "good" oil is motul 300v 15w50 if it helps..

Cant it wait til Monday?
Ive mixed a bit of oil before and while most dont advise it, I dont think its a problem as long as its the same, ie synthetic and same grade / viscosity. You then narrow the difference down to what additives it has.

in all seriousness, i have to drive to sheffield tomorrow which is another 320 miles and cant be avoided, it should have been changed earlier but the oppty did not come up.
I just dont want to get to 2k without changing it after a fairly expensive rebuild..

Neil I'd just wait and do it as soon as you have enough, Halfords oil may be fine but who knows (apart from Pete lewis of course).
Just drive her easy, should have been changed at 1000 really.
What does the dip stick look like (colour/odour etc)
