Bonnet won't click shut

Bonnet won't click shut
Hello
First post - didn't really want it to be a problem with my new Scoob...oh well! Bought an X Reg Turbo yesterday. I love it, but I popped the bonnet open yesterday evening and then noticed that it wouldn't click shut again.
I catches on the release handle ok, but it won't actually click shut fully like it should i.e. there is no need to use the handle inside to pop the bonnet.
It doesnt even feel like there is anything there to click into when i push it down hard.
Obviously not going to leave it like this for long if I can't fix it (I'm going to have a quick look tonight and maybe take it somewhere tomorrow).
Any ideas what might be wrong, and potential cost of a fix?
Cheers!

My dad's sport does this all the time in winter due to the crap the catch picks up. Douse the catch in wd40, then with a pair of needle nose pliers grip the end of the cable that operates the catch and work it in and out until it feels like it's freed off. The problem is caused by the cable not being able to return to it's original position due to the cables outer being full of road grime.
Failing that, a new catch is cheap, even from Subaru.
Hope that helps,
Brian

Cheers for the replies.
Does the cable come from the catch affixed to the engine compartment, rather than the bonnet then?
Just trying to visualise how its meant to work.

The cable is attached to the clasp on the engine bay side, a loop from the bonnet clips into this when it's shut, and the clasp should hold it in place.

if cable was broken then i think the bonnet would shut but not open. Had this happen on a metro (yes i was young and broke). Had to remove the front grill to open the bonnet...LOL

look down in to the catch and you will see the end of the cable passes through a small finger. the finger will be over to the left because when you pull the release thats where the cable pulls it to. the finger should be over to the right up against the end of the cable so follow the finger up to it's pivot point and spray some wd40 or similar on it and work the finger with a screw driver back and forth it will soon free up.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. Fixed it last night. The actual cable wasn't stuck but the catch that is supposed to pivot was stuck in position. Sprayed some WD40 and is still a bit stiff but at least I know how to fix it now.
Cheers!
