Default Best headers for big mods???

I'm hoping to buy a full 3.5" internal dia APS exhaust system inc downpipe. Will also be uprating the turbo from it's current modified state and may well consider rotated Garrett setup.

What I'd like to know is which headers would be best to get the most out of this kind of free flowing inlet and exhaust system. More than happy to go equal length - but can anyone recommend a top quality make - should be able to support 500bhp+ in the future as I wouldn't want to change them again. And thinking more for high power/ racing rather than low down torque for on-road driving. Also will I need an uprated up-pipe too, or do some headers come with them. Currently have slightly oversized (compared to standard) H&S up-pipe.

Cheers

If you are going for a rotated garrett then reconsider the need for the full APS exhaust at circa £1k. The rotated set up will come with its own dedicated up/down pipes and there are exhaust systems out ther at half that money that have been proven to around 600bhp.
Any of the Gruppe-S or GT spec style headers will support this bhp level. I used Gruppe-s last year on my race car, the sizes are identical to the GT spec. Expect to pay £400-500

Thanks Andy.

The APS exhaust in question is just over half that as it is 2nd hand - seems like very good value to me. I take your point about different up/downpipe for rotated setups - but apparently the APS can be adapted to suit rotated??

Anyway, are the Gruppe S and GT soec equal length or slightly unequal length and would equal be the best way ahead?

Cheers

OK, at that price the APS is worth it.
The headers are slightly unequal. Equal length will be better for a particular peak figure if they are designed to suit your particular set up. Unequal will even the power over a wider band. Overall the car will be as quick on uneven as it will be on even length.

Terry, have a look back through the groupbuy section for these, the contact details for GruppeS are there - I got mine direct from the states. I also have the H&S uppipe, 51mm ID - the collector on the headers is 57mm ID so I slightly tapered the uppipe flange so there wasn't a lip. I did this with the uppipe in situ underneath the car.

Terry,

me and daz bought ours (with helix up-pipe) in the Gruppe-s group buy - worked out a good price.

If you're interested i could e mail Max for you and try and blag a third cheap set. (the other 2 both came to me ).

definately more unequal length - i've still got a decent burble

Can a DP and system be too big for a given turbo and give a negative effect?

That is :
A 2.5 for a stock Sti v3 turbo for example
A 3'' for a 20g for example
A 3.5'' for a GT rotated mega turbo etc?

Terry get your name on the list because thats a good deal Paul's offering, look's good quality non of this Megan rubbish.

I remember 3 years ago looking at paying £1200 for headers with no up-pipe, wrap or gaskets Luckily Subaru tuning parts are getting cheaper due to more demand / more suppliers.

They are not made in China. They aren't made in Japan either, but they are not made in china! Don't be fooled into thinking that all Jap tuning parts are made in Japan!

Half the stuff on a standard subaru is made in China / Thailand / Malaysia any way so i would not be concerned even if they were!

They look good Paul, Are they GT-spec gen2's ? great price.

They look identical from the pics, just without the badge. Great price agreed - will be putting my name down.
