Default Replacing bolts

Is there a way of telling what thread the bots are under the bonnets of a 99MY Classic?

Was looking to replace some of the smaller ones (ie cam cover's) will allen bolts.

Is it possible to change all the bolts for zinc plated/stainless?

Just wanted to get rid of the rusty bolts, without resorting to painting them.

Cheers

Jonathan

most are std M6 or M8, however some of the larger stuff is metric fine, slightly unusual in the UK........................

Pretty much all M6 X 1.0 or M8 X 1.25 which as Alyn says is standard pitch.

You can change them to stainless, but only use ally bolts in non stressed areas.

There are a few M10 X 1.25's around which is metric fine, i.e if you will have to specify pitch on ordering as if you ask for M10 you will get a M10 X 1.5

All the lengths vary around the bay, and if you are worried about what pitch something is either get a set of thread gauges (draper do a set) or sipmply measure over 10 threads with a rule. if its 12.5mm then your pitch is obviously 1.25mm

Bit of an old thread I know, but you guys are still users.
I'm looking to replace the rusty bolts under the bonnet. Only things like heat tank cover, power steering tank etc. So any advice on size of those would be great. I know there are sizes listed on this thread, but I wanted to reply so I don't lose the thread when searching later.
thanks
