P1
Im currenlty look to buy a P1 now that the insurance is reasonable. Im after for one that has had an engine re-build, trying to find out if a rebuilt P1 engine have less power that an original P1 engine as some of the newer standard engines are less powerfull?

If the rebuild has been done properly (you need to make sure it has been aswell, insist on seeing receipts and who did the rebuild etc), there's no reason why the engine would lose any power and should be the same as when it left the factory

If it's had a later engine fitted then it may have less power.
Why would you want one thats had a rebuild? A well looked after one should be as good or better IMO

Just a couple of things to keep in mind when you are looking for a car that has had a rebuild:
i) Why did the engine fail the first time, and has the CAUSE been found and adressed (ie faulty MAF etc). If not nothing tells you that the engine won't fail again.
ii) Has it had a rebuild because it has had a hard life? If so what sort of life has it had after the rebuild? What condition is the rest of the car in? (on a car that has been thrashed throughout its life, there are other items to fail as well as the engine, suspension bushes, gearboxes, etc...)
iii) How good a rebuild has it had?
Unless you can be certain of all the above, a rebuilt engine doesn't mean anything and can easily be the start of more problems, instead of a ticket to peace of mind.
If it has been done properly, then yes it should mean a longer engine life, and possibly a stronger more powerfull engine if upgraded items have been used.
