Default Cylinder heads and Cams

Further to my questions the other day

I run a 93 Legacy single turbo. What are the differences between my cylinder heads between my ones the wrx ones and sti ones?

Does the legacy use different cam profiles to the wrx and sti?

I'm trying to work out what would be the best upgrade if anything at all

Many thanks for your time.

Paul

Yes, the cam profiles are different it seems between the Legacy, UK Impreza Turbo, WRX and Sti models, and they also varried between the versions too The standard Cam profile of choice seems to be the one used in the Sti 3, which is quite close in lift and duration to the WRC98 spec cam profile popularised as the DH22 from Kent cams

Thanks that's just the sort of answer I was looking for I wonder if that's what keeps the power down on a Legacy comparatively speaking

Which cams can I use with my Legacy pistons? Do the sti cams require pistons with pockets for clearance?

Thanks

Without knowing the crown volume, gasket thickness, cam duration and lift it's not an easy one to answer!

I don't know any of that information because I don't know much about the internals of my engine

I think the biggest issue is the Legacy has pivoting lever cam followers (like a Pinto) which pivot on the hydraulic lash adjusters. The cams seem very mild to look at, but it's hard to say what they are really like as they don't act directly on the valve.

Impreza heads are a common swap as they don't have the lazy lash adjusters.

Looks like I'll change the whole heads at some point then. I didn't know all of that information. Thanks for answering Paul
