Default Tools required to fit gearbox

I have sourced myself a gearbox, and have a garage with ramp for the day to fit it.

How much of a job is it, and are there any specialist tools required to do the job.

I have only ever changed one gearbox before and that was on front wheel drive though.

Any advice would be great, even if it is to say dont touch it.

Cheers

I keep both these items in the glove box at all times.

seriosly you will need two people to lift the box if you are on the ground doing it it is very heavy!

The hardest bit is probably getting the clutch release arm disconected everything boltwise is reasonably easy to get to a good socket set and good spanners and you will be fine

the only thing i would say is that you would be best to release the clutch fork while the car is on the ground if thats done everything else is pretty easy

could take more than a day though if you hit problems

put it this way i am going to do my clutch in my leggy next week and i am taking the engine out to do it as i feel this is easier than taking all the stuff off under the car to get the box out!!

I will do the timming belt and plugs while the engine is out and thats me hunky dorry in 1 day all 3 jobs done in 1 go and no need to lift anything heavy lol

I have done it both ways and engine out is quicker and easier

obviously you dont need to do it this way so will be under the car doing it but its just there is a lot of bracing etc to remove before you even get to the box although the impreza may be different not sure good luck anyway as long as everything comes out ok you WILL do it in one day
