Question Cold air and limp home mode??

This winter I have noticed that quite often when the air temps get down into subzero figures my car goes into safe mode (0.5 bar). If I turn car off and restart it, it usually goes back into its normal running mode but not always. Sometimes it resets itself on the fly . I dont get a CEL just a drop in boost. Another anomaly I have noticed is it takes a few turns of the starter motor to kick it over when its cold, it used to fire almost instantly...

I did a search and it appears that this might be a MAF failure?

I could probably either ask Dowser to log it or take it to my garage? What do you guys think would be the best way to check it and find out what the problem is?
