Default KPH To MPH

Evening all

Wondering if some one can shed some light on this for me. Ive been to look at a scooby today on a L plate, WRX Import.

My question is how do you know if its been converted to mph, the dials were changed to mph but im not sure about the actual mileage ( the digits )

How do you tell ?
Where could i find out ?

Cheers
Scud

P.S The guy at the garage didnt have a clue either

I think I know what you mean. Sorry if I get it wrong.

The digits will change when its converted, ie the Km's will become miles automatically.

Also...

To work out total milage of the car look at the old MOTs. If its got all of them, the milage on the first mot will be the amount of Km's it came into the UK with and any milage afta that will be in miles. The conversion from km's to miles is X 1.6. You can work it out from that

some early cars are only 'converted' by putting a sticky face over the original speedo head, this will normally only read to 110mph............in this instance the mileometer is still reading in KILOMETRES!!!

a properly converted one will have a "cable converter" and a 180mph speedo and everything will calculate as miles................

nath is right above about the km/miles.............

Look for a converter box type thing near the gearbox dipstick, where the speedo cable joins the box. If it has a mechanical converter you will see it here.

Is this also true for the electronic speedo.. i.e if an import has been converted using some device then the miles on the electronic odometer will have already been converted? (my MPH reads up to 160mph)
