been given a couple of brand new 205/55/16 pirreli p6000's which i was gonna fit to the front wheels but unfortunatly the current tyres are a 50 profile. will fitting the new tyres **** the diff/transfer box or cause any handling problems?

I looked into this last time my tyres needed replacing as 55 profiles give more tyre choice and would also alter the final drive ratio ( useful on a tuned car ) giving more speed for less revs. They are also cheaper. The line from Subaru is however that using 55 profiles will have a detrimental affect on the car's handling ( I'm not entirely convinced on this one ) and will also place unwanted stress on the diffs possibly causing early failure ( as an engineer this seems entirely plausible ). I was of course thinking of replacing all four tyres. To replace only two would certainly affect the handling and damage the differential. P6000's aren't up to much anyway.

You have to fit in sets of four but there is no problem running 55 profile.
