Anyone ever have problems with police and decat...
Just decatted my 2001 JDM STI.
Center resonator now gone so quite loud.
Extra low down power fantastic. Thanks to http://www.xtremescoobies.ltd.uk/ for an excellent job.
Just wondered if anyone has had problems with the police without the cat and the additional noise? Are there fines etc if they can prove you are decatted or for the extra noise?
Have had several bikes and the penalty for a race exhaust was 30 quid fine on the spot. Luckily never got done but came close a few times. Had a stamp on the pipe to say that it was road legal (was until I took the baffle out, only for track days but forgot to put it back in ) .
Cheers

IIRC they could issue you with something or other, but like most of the tickets they give out for car defects, they have to be checked over at your local MOT garage and verified. Hence if you've already got a bent MOT tester who doesn't car about decats or noise limits then no problem.
Apart from one BIG problem. The law is changing. MOT regs are tightening up, tickets are now online and verifiable, all your MOT data is recorded and I doubt that MOT testers are going to be the friendly places that turn a blind eye for regulars that they are at the moment, for much longer. The system has been changed so it will just be too much hassle for testers to do people a favour with decat systems. Books of nicked tickets are worthless down the pub now. So we go back to the situation where you really DO need to actually put your cat pipe back on at MOT time, pass the emissions test properly, then take it off again and swap it for the decat afterwards.
IMHO, just get a sports catted downpipe and you've never got any problems, ever.

Thanks for the replys .
Will change for the MOT to a high flow cat . They are just so expensive (high flow cat) to buy in the firstplace.
Seems like no collars get felt for this so will feel a bit better when the next coppper gives me a serious eyeball...Hello sir...is this your... rather loud...etc
Sounding a bit paranoid here... police, neighbours etc...Must be getting old...aaarghhhhhhh...
Cheers

Silent Running is so right.
The decat days are numbered.
I've just re fitted my old sport cat and can't notice much difference tbh, but at Powerstation today saw the superb Miltek sport cat and system...just so good, shame to wrap it!
Graham.

There is roadside emission test gear available to Police forces, but I have no idea how widespread its use is. As for fiddling the emissions test for 'regulars' at the local garage, the new system wont change a thing. At worst you can just push the sample pipe up the **** of another vehicle to get a printout
Just stick the lower cat in for a test, then pop the link pipe back in after. Ten minute job. My tester even did it for me. Not illegal, it's only my problem as soon as I take it on the highway. Until it becomes endorsable who cares, the penalties in the first instance are relatively small.
My big bore bike drank mre fuel than my scooby and never had any cat!

Roadside emission testing is now a weekly occurance close to where I work.
Speaking to the Ministry of Transport guy today he told me they actively seek and stop "Performance" cars from time to time as Decats have become so common (Its the Cops that do the stopping, he justs carries out the emissions checks etc)...

hopefully nothing to worry about.
thanks for the info.
Scoobs are by nature quite loud and i think any copper knows they are ALL farely vociferous and it would take a pretty smart copper to detect the difference.
Feel a bit better now.

are copers intested...
Once had a training day with the police on my fireblade.
copper who schooled me said he had two bkes. One for the track and one for the road. Both fireblades.
aAked did he have legal exhaust on the road bike and he said of course not.
Safety issue, people can hear me coming when I have a loud pipe.

I have a stainless exhaust with a de-cat and its loud as....
I was under the impression that scoobies had an extra cat in the manifold and thats how it through emmisions?
how would a mechanic know it hasn't got a cat anyway without spliting the pipe?
Maybe I'm being a little naive
