Question air pipe ? engine difference

hi can anyone tell me if having found two split pipes which seem to be air pipes one about 10mm coming of the turbo going to air filter and one connected to the big plastic pipe on the air filter .i have just fixed them and the car seems to go like a different car would these pipes really make the difference .......plus the only way i found them is what seemed to be smoke coming from under bonnet smelt sort of electrical but after sorting pipes as completly gone ???????? one for you tecnical guys to answer i just found two split pipes fixed them and all seems good ,,,,ideas please


ps : its a 93 wrx wagon if that helps

Yes it would make a difference as if there sucking air in this wouldnt be metred and the car could have been running lean.The other option is that you could have been losing boost out of them.

cheers for that info mate would this possibly have caused the smoke as it relly did smoke looked like it was coming from air filter ??????

Sound like one of them may have been the engine breather pipe which could give smoke and an oily smell
