oil change my96 sti
could anyone tell me the procedure for doing an oil & filter change on a ver.2 sti
did a forum search but its not working i know you have to fill the filter with oil before fitting but not sure what sensor to disconect

Steps:
1. Before starting make sure the car has been idle (you do not want hot oil on your hands) and is level.
2. Remove the drainplug to drain all the oil
3. Remove the old oil filter and re-attached dranplug
4. Get new oil filter, and with your finger apply some oil to the rubber seal
5. Connect new filter and top up oil.

some people disconnect the crank sensor as this prevents the engine from firing.
The idea is you disconnect this sensor, and then turn over the engine.
The idea is because the engine will not run but it is cranking, there is less stress on the engine components so it allows a film of oil to cover the bearings etc.

cant help you on that one im afraid as I have never done it personally. Best bet is do a search on here for the location of it. As a rough guess I would say front of engine at the bottom, would imagine it would be a 2 pin connector

I read on here you can save yourself having to disconnect the crank sensor, by holding the accelerator pedle to the floor whilst cranking. The ecu prevents the engine from firing apparently whilst the throttle is wide open.
Personally wouldn't bother, unless you've had the engine apart/rebuild or something, as you would have have only just drained oil out of the engine, so all parts are already coated with oil! Do the oil change on a warm (not hot!!) engine, and all the internal bits will be covered in more oil than during a cold start in the morning anyway!
If there was any sense in the cranking engine over without letting it start, then it would need doing everytime the engine is started!!!
