I wouldn't say this has anything to do with the phne mast, but i deffo sound's like an alarm fault in witch there is a time delay to lock the car take it to either subaru or an alarm specialist

Hi there

The alarm bleep on start up suggests that the battery is on its way out (mine used to do it till I replaced the battery) quite common apparently.

How long does it take for the car to lock itself (if its about 30 seconds then you may have the auto-lock feature on the alarm turned on). I have witnessed a mate of mine locking himself out of the car (with the engine running), resulting in a 50 mile round trip to get his spare keys.

Hope this helps if not btt

I'm assuming that we are talking about a standard fit system on a UK supplied vehicle 99-06MY fitted with a Sigma M30 alarm system.
There are a number different features that can be turned "on" that then control automatic locking of the doors. If these are turned "on" it is important that you understand how they work - I suspect one or some of these have been turned "on" on your system causing the confusion.

- Standard Locking: Doors lock when arming the alarm with Radio Key (standard feature & self explanatary)

- Safety/Auto Lock: this optional feature locks the doors and boot immediately when the ignition is turned "on", and unlocks them when the ignition is turned "off". Even when this feature is turned on, it is possible to prevent this happening, on a single occasion, by turning the ignition "on" whilst the driver's door is still open.
As the doors lock immediately when the ignition is turned "on" (with you in the car and the door closed) and does not operate when the ignition is turned "on" with a door open, this feature cannot lock the keys in the car.

To turn "on" arm/disarm the system and type the following sequence into the keypad: *17856*02*1.
To turn "off" arm/disarm the system and type the following sequence into the keypad: *17856*02*0.

- Auto Re-arm with locking: this feature is turned "on" as standard. If the alarm system is disarmed and the vehicle unlocked, but no door is opened within the following 30 seconds (standard setting, although this time is adjustable) then the alarm assumes the Radio key was pressed in error and Re-arms and the vehicle's doors re-lock.
As the doors lock following the system being disarmed, but no door is opened, again this feature cannot lock the keys in the car.

To turn "on" arm/disarm the system and type the following sequence into the keypad: *17856*05*1.
To turn "off" arm/disarm the system and type the following sequence into the keypad: *17856*05*0.

- Auto Arm with locking: this feature is turned "off" as standard. When activated, if the ignition is turned "off " and then a door is then opened the system will arm automatically and lock the doors a set time after the door is closed. The Auto Arm time is adjustable.
This is the only feature that could possibly lock the keys in a vehicle - if the the ignition is turned "off" the keys left in the ignition barrel and the driver exits the vehicle and shuts the door behind.

To turn "on" arm/disarm the system and type the following sequence into the keypad: *17856*03*1#*04*1#.
To turn "off" arm/disarm the system and type the following sequence into the keypad: *17856*03*0.

All these features are described in the operating instructions, a copy of which can be found in the thread at:
http://www.subaru-impreza.org/subaru...pic.php?t=2476

All the above features require the ignition and door pin switch inpts to be working correctly to operate as described.

The bleep on start up is a separate issue. The noise is produced from the siren. When you're cranking the engine over, the vehicle’s battery voltage is dropping so low that the siren thinks that someone has cut it’s power supply – the beep is the siren’s internal battery kicking in, then it realizes its disarmed anyway.
Unfortunately, the cause is a starter motor drawing too much current or more likely the
battery not holding sufficient charge (or a combination of both) – Always becomes evident this time of year as things get cold and the starter has to work harder to turn the engine over.

You can check the vehicle’s
battery voltage as mentioned in the post above, by pressing digit “8” on the keypad with the ignition “on”. Then turn the ignition “off” within 5 seconds and count the flashes from the alarm LED. 9 flashes=9 volt.
Obviously, being electrically operated, if the
battery voltage is negligable then this feature will not work and remember that this indicated voltage will drop when the engine is being cranked.
