tuning an 03 JDM Sti twin scroll
I've been reading the sticky thread on newage mods so am pretty clued up as where I want to be going.
I already have a DP back decat, Defi gauges and an Ecutek license(car was supplied new by Litchfields so was already remapped for UK fuel)
i also have a de-cat DP that is yet to be fitted.
But.. I can't be arsed with changing the DP come MOT time so my query is this.
Has anyone remapped one of these with a DP back decat while keeping the standard DP? Is there any decent gains to be had or am I wasting my time? My goal is not ultimate power but quicker spool up and better throttle response(obviously a few extra ponies won't go amiss either!)
Or, is a sports DP the way to go? I believe SS do them but can't find any info on their website(although I grudge paying @ £600 for a sports cat when I already have a decat ready to fit!). I assume the car will sail through an MOT with just the sports cat.
Any advice?

Andy.F maybe? Any comments? I'll probably be giving you a shout for the mapping whichever route I go down.
Have you mapped any Evo's yet using Ecutek? My brothers looking to get his 6 done

Taylor,
I am in a similar position. I am thinking of going fully de-cat and I have a 3" DP to go on. But I don't want to be paying for a DP swop everytime for an MOT.
However, I think the JDM's have the same exhaust path as the classics after the DP and so maybe a centre section with a cat can be swopped over for the MOT? It's a quick swop over by comparison to the DP swop. Or a garage that specialises in scoobs may have a centre section that fits for 'loan' come MOT time? From what I have read though the centre section needs to be warm for the cat to work so would need to be taken for a spin first before doing emmissions test.
Powerstation has an ideal set up for this as there is an MOT station directly across the road.

If your worried about the MOT, look at something like a Milltek system with the sports cat, you wont loose much power, maybe 2-3bhp over the decat but it will pass the roadside emissions tests.
Have a word with Iain Litchfield, these systems are fitted to the twinscroll JDM cars he has but you should still be good for a nice 350+bhp and 370lbs of torque, depending on where you go and i also think that the TSL 333 package runs the standard cat for the STi's.

350/370 and road legal sounds good. spose I could flog the ultra pimp titanium Cusco system and SS decat DP. that would probably cover the cost of a a full milltek system and sports cat.
Can't see the extra few kilos making that much difference
