omg i have found the problem...

the cambelt is still in one piece but the top cam (coggy type thing<technical term) on the left (as you look at the car) has disintegrated...

what now??

any idea of a ball park figure on how much this is gonna cost to sort out.. or how much a 2nd hand engine will set me back..

oh what a merry christmas!!!

uh-oh....
are scooby engines valve-safe?
Its possible you may have bent some valves when the pulley mashed itself, could be engine-out, top-end rebuild!
Thats worse case though...

Oh dear, sorry to hear that mate, How long was you trying to start it mate? (how long was you turning it over for?)...

I think you may have gave it further damage but you wasnt to know.
...You gonna need to get the engine out, stripped down and have a good look, Decent engine will prob be the best bet, least you can strip your old one down and try and suck some doe back out of it!!!

Good Luck!!!

I think he would have to very unlucky to have damaged the top end won't he? Won't he just get away with replacing the damaged sprocket as he hardly drove it under the conditions he described?

i did try a few times to turn it over...
but i was only doing about 10-15 mph as it is a snow/ice covered village lane with kiddies and stuff.. so it died and i immediately dipped clutch and stopped. so i dont know how much damage is done..

what sort of price will an engine set me back.. its only a standard 98 uk car (if that makes a difference).
also roughly how much is it going to cost to get a new one dropped in?

thanks guys i really appreciate your time and input on this.

Put a new cog and belt on and try it. Thats got to be cheaper then a new one. Also check the antifreeze to make sure water pumps not froze
