3-port boost solenoid - do I need one?
I understand these give finer boost control, protecting against overboost and so on, but am I really going to notice not having one fitted out on the road?
Car is a newage WRX that will be mapped to run 1.2 bar on a TD04 initially.

My 05 (WRX) was mapped (Bob R ) to 1.4bar without the need for a 3 port. Apparently the newage ECU's are more than capable of coping with the extra boost, if mapped properly that is..!

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it's not necessary for myself. I'll put the hundred odd pounds towards seeing how quickly I can get through Optimax instead .

I tend not to just plump for the three port out right prefering to wait and see if its neeeded, there are some mod combinations that I know will but a lot can be done with the two port and the suitable adjustment of its boost control pipework, you can't just fit though it should be done in conjunction with remapping. New age ecu's are much better at boost control than the MY99-00 ecu's but same philosophy applies.
