IF NOT ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET ONE FROM, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE NEW BUT NOT KNOCKING IT'S NUTS OFF.

Yes. All you need is the short block. Keep your heads, inlet manifold, turbo, exhaust manifold too as sensor points are different. Think has one extra sensor. Basically you just fit the short block!!

Dean, speak to Howard at HDC Subaru in Hebden Bridge, he'll have an engine for you, good price and he's a well known reliable chap.

Engine 1 (ie your original engine) is a phase 2 engine, the engine you want to fit is a phase 1 engine.
Personally, id speak to API and get it either rebuilt or another phase 2 engine fitted, i would not fit a phase 1 engine to a phase 2 engined car.

If it fits....why not out of interest?

If the money is available however......I think you can buy the 2.5 block (I think that's the same as the 'short engine' mentioned above) that you can fit your existing heads, intake, exhaust, ancillary items etc etc, for £1500 odd new. Its open deck, though still tunable up to 450hp I think. Ring round a few scooby specialists including API, and get some specialist options & quotes for comparison.

The early engine has horrible pistons in it and whilst it will work - it isn't the best solution. It'll also have to be fitted with the thick head gaskets due to the compression height of the pistons in the early block.

Then the block head combination becomes measurably wider and the inlet manifold will no longer fit over the studs and they'll need drilling out etc., etc., etc.,

Best to rebuild the 99 motor with the right parts or get another 99 spec. complete.

Good Luck give me a call Tuesday, when we reopen if you want guidance.
