Default WRX RA to N/A - engine conversion?

Before you think I'm crazy, I'm not - please let me explain!

For the class I rally in I cant run a 4wd car with forced induction, I can however run a turbo charged 4x4 car which has been converted to a normally aspirated engine.
The original plan was to buy a cheap 4 door GL or Sport and then cage it, run lines inside, guard the underside etc etc - however I have found an RA which is fully prep'd.
Therefore the plan changed to taking out the 2 litre turbo and replacing it with a 2 litre engine from a sport, or if possible a 2.5 litre from a legacy

The questions i have are:

What would need to be changed to do this? ie does a 2 litre NA engine utilise the same engine mounts? What about the clutch/bellhousing/gearbox? Are they compatible?
I realise that it is HIGHLY unlikely that anyone has done this before but would the technically minded chaps on here (Wallis/P20/John Banks/APi David etc etc) care to offer some insight.

I know a fair bit about Imprezas (built a 330bhp330lb/ft UK 99 a few years ago with GEMS etc ect) so I could undertake most of the work myself.

Or should I stick with a Sport and built that up?

Help!

AFAIK the engine mounts are all the same and the gearboxes swap - you'd need to check on low range boxes/different clutches.

Many thanks for replying to my question John.

Why would the gearbox need to be changed as well? Couldn't the RA running gear be used?

Just I'm not familiar with the range of transmissions on offer on NA Imprezas.

May stretch the budget, but have a look at the most recent 2.0 NA and 2.5 NA engines - the latest 2.0 is similar to the old 2.5 in output, there might be some cylinder heads or exhaust manifolds to use?

The heads from a n/a 2.0 will fit the turbo block. Therefore shouldnt be too dificult if you use the n/a manifold set up. Done this the other way round once when I couldnt get a turbo engine!

Just a suggestion - The 3.0 flat 6 will fit, although needs some front end work to fit....there's a website floating around where sombody has done it. Or are you restricted on capacity too?

if you r going aspirated you want all the cc's you can get
getting your compression up enough will be a big issue
run pistons 10thou proud to gain squish
you want to be looking at throttle bodies jenvey etc
forged custom pistons r $600 usd
exhaust manifold would need to be equal length primarys or your wasting your time
theres more to it depending on power you would like you really want all the power you can get

Cheers for the pointers

Its road rallying so power isnt the issue.. seen 300bhp imprezas and 2.4 MK2 escorts beaten by near standard 1300cc suzuki swifts!
The main point is will a 2.0 or a 2.5 and all its ancilliaries drop into a turbo car?

Heres what I would do
Get a 2.5 NA lump and bolt it in
On doing a look at a few customers cars in the workshop, I would get the 2.5 radiator / power steering pump
all wiring connectors look like a dead match up and the only trick is to get the turbo ecu mapped for NA use, the connectors are different
the biggest trick will be wiring and electrical
mounts = same
I would use the NA gearbox though
but beware that the different years and body shapes have different splines
