My 97 JDM is cable. If you look under the bonnet, the cable rises up from the driver's side of the gearbox and goes through the bulk head between the brake & clutch cylinders. Mine consists of 2 cables with a small reduction gearbox about 12" up from where it leaves the gearbox. It's a black cable, about 10mm dia.
