Question new scooby - is this normal...?

Hi all, couldn't resist the performance urge any more so ive got rid of my old man's Merc and bought a MY05 WRX 300 (PPP). Have just finished crawling the first 1000, had the free service and have been enjoying some revs around the lanes here in Kent.

A few questions to all u experts if I may..? Therse might all be bloomin obvious to u long termers but i would appreciate some comments:

1. the fan: seems to make a hell of a whirring & clicking noise when it kicks in. First noticed it when I had the bonnet up with th car idling. It kicks in a regular intervals due to some device moving and engaging it. Now I can't stop myself hearing it when I'm driving. Is this normal...?

2. rev dip: 2nd gear around 5/6000, just contemplating th gear change to 3rd, small but noticable dip in drive, as if the car suddenly splutters. usual...?

3. oil: was only charged for th oil and filter on the first service. I spose i shouldn't complain really but the oil was only charged at £4.50 a litre for 6 litres. The Merc oil was well over £10 per litre, (and need 10 litres !) and was some Shell synthetic stuff. I would have expected a performance engine to demand the best of the best. What's everyone else's opinion...? Have they put in rubbish..? Is this normal..? Should I bring my own next time....? If so what..?

Thanks in advance for your sympathetic answers.

Rich

The first one sounds like the air-con kicking in and not the fan? And yes they are quite noisey.

No 2 i dont know
and no 3 does sound cheap as thats £27 for 6 litres although I'd be more concerened if they've put 6 litres in as thats way to much as they only hold 4.5l so you must have been overcharged by a litre and a half.

apologies it was £6 per litre for 4.5 litres, not the other way round.

Dealer at your Merc garage was ripping you off rotten

Most people run fully synthetic oils such as Motul, Silkolene, Castrol RS or shell Helix.
Many a thread on the subject.

Depends entirely on the garage mate.

The cheeky beggars at my local garage use Castrol GTX Magnatec 10w40, just about the crapiest oil available for the Scooby

From what I have read on here it would be better to provide your own oil. I certainly will be next service.
