Thumbs down Wrong oil maybe??

Hi there,

I just did my first oil change yesterday using silkolene 10w-50 fully synthetic oil. I followed instructions off here on how to do it & I even disconnected the crank sensor. I dont know what type of oil was in it before but now when the engine is warm & it is just ticking over I can hear a tapping/flicking noise. It sounds louder if I put my head under the front bumper. The volume of the tapping/flicking sound seems to fluctuate up & down without me revving it. Any thoughts guys?

Cheers.

Cambelt Tensioner? Is this a serious problem or can it be adjusted to stop it flapping?
Thanks for your help.

if it is the problem then the tensioner needs replacing.

it might be nothing and you are listening more intently since changing the oil.

no idea from a text description exactly how loud / serious sounding it is.

Sound like it might be worth dropping in somewhere and get it listened to though.

Thanks Simon,
I just did a search on 'cambelt tensioner' & read that on someone elses car the noise went away when the throttle was blipped,
Then the noise came back slowly as the engine returned to normal tickover.
Mine does this aswell.
Sounds like you diagnosed my problem correctly mate.
Thanks again.
