Default Short block?

My piston slapping, tired MY97 engine is finally about to give up on me i think. Cold start sounds horrendous so looking to replace the block or engine before I end up with transport. Would like to make it as reliable as possible but also cost effective after spending shedloads on the damn thing! Basically would like some ideas on the best way to go about it.

Cheers but I think its on its way out its rumbling as well, has done 95,000 miles and has had piston slap for 30,000 of them so I need to replace it anyway. Anyone know where I can get a cheap short motor from. I know Powerstation sometimes sell STI blocks but I don't think that it would be a straightforward installation.

Talk to David at www.apiengines.com he is very used to dealing with dead Impreza engines.
Straight talking no bullsh!t honest guy.
You can ease the bill by getting your engine out and taking the loose engine to him etc.
Graham.
