Default Fitting Headers

Could anyone tell me if I have to remove the turbo to get the up pipe off when I fit new headers.

Also my car is a UK car registered in Jan 97, is there a simple way I can tell if it is a 97 model, or a 96 model registered in 97.

Cheers

Hi Geoff.

I fitted my headers this weekend. Took me about 5 hours and wasn't too difficult.

No need to remove the turbo but you will need to undo the downpipe to turbo connection and move the downpipe back a couple of inches. This is because there are two bolts down there. You just need to pull the downpipe back enough to get a socket down there (you will see what I mean). You will need a 14 mm long reach socket for most of the bolts. I also found that the bolts I recieved in the mounting kit were too long and I ended up using most of the original ones.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! Please be very carefull of the wiring loom which runs along the bottom of the rad. The design of my headers meant that this loom melted onto them and has caused no end of problems and a non running car. Make sure that this loom is well away from the new exhaust.

I also found that I had to undo the engine mounts and jack up the engine on the drivers side to get the new headers in. be aware of stretching any other part of the loom.

All in all it wasn't a difficult job but I tried to rush it and am paying the price.

If you need any further help just drop me a line.

Good luck.

Cheers. Mark.
