Question Please help get my scooby running.

Hi guys. My scooby cut out when a wiring loom melted onto my headers. I have sorted out the loom but it won't start.
When I turn on the ignition the oil and battery light come on but the cel doesn't. I have checked out my ecu by fitting it to another scooby and it was fine.
Is there a fuse which protects the ecu? I have checked the fuses under the dash and the fuse board by the bonnet release lever and apart from a blown hazard fuse everything is fine.
I am clutching at staws and getting frustrated at not being able to find anything wrong.
Any help please as I need the car for work in the morning.
Thank you guys.
Mark.

Should have said it is a 93 JDM. Cheers. Mark. I have also noticed that the fuel pump doesn't prime the fuel system when the ignition is turned on.

Thumbs up

well had something like this on a 96uk someyears ago
when you have a loom short it can start a chain ie other parts of loom connectors sensors can fail i think on our 96 the block connector for the fuel pump had burnt out under rear seat but was fine before original loom fault.
hope this helps sorry its vague may have to work through main loom bypass with long wire or bulb test ect...

Hi again guys. I have done a bit more investigation.

Fuel pump will not run when ignition is switched on but will run when 12 volt applied direct.

No spark. I have done a voltage check at the low tension connection and there is nothing.

How do I check if I am getting power at the ecu? The check engine light still won't come on with the ignition.

Could this be a problem with the imobaliser? I do however have to disarm this to get the ignition to come on so it is partially working.

Starting to get very frustrated and have had to take time off work. Please help if you can.

Cheers. Mark.

autoelectricians are only about £30/hr and would sort it in a couple of hours max... maybe an idea?

Main relay may have burned out this also supplies the fuel pump relay.Theres three relays behind the dash above the fuse box one is the main,One is fuel pump, but i cant remember which colour is which at the moment.

I'll have a look in the morning and find out the colour coding for you.

If you look HERE & HERE the ecu pinout is shown so you should be able to test the ecu is receiving 12vdc.

Cheers

Honestly get an auto electrician to plug there gadget in. They will find it no probs and they come to you and are cheap. I changed a loom in a v6 24v mondeo and they found a break in the wire in no time.

Default SORTED IT.

Hi guys. Thank you for all of your input. I did get a mobile auto electrician out to have a look. What a total waste of time. He didn't have a clue. He was writing out his bill for 105 quid when my wife noticed that one of the big 30 amp fuses in the engine bay fuse box looked a bit iffy. Low and behold when the electrician made up a temporary fuse it burst into life.
My wife gave the guy 40 quid and told him to get lost which he did with his tail between his legs.
So to the other guys who have been having the same problem double check these fuses. The main one which protects the fuel pump and sparks is the second one from the front. It's green with a clear cover and is rated to 30 amps. Good luck and I hope you get your scoobies running again. Iv'e now fallen in love with mine all over again.
Cheers. Mark.
