has anyone any info on fitting a legacy chargecooler instead of the intercooler on my EJ20 2002 WRX engine? will it be as efficient?

WHy I hear you ask ?- well its going to be rear mounted in a VW van and i cant run the intercooler in any sensible location whitout compromising efficiency by massive pipe runs etc. CHarge cooler would give me more options for mounting but how? what do i need to consider? Will it also be a compromise?
im guessing it bassically needs a small header tank a pump and some pipe runs - am I missing something?.

I cant afford a spanking aftermarket set up - so its very nice of Subaru to provide the answer (maybe) on their legacy.
