Question `95 WRX - MAP sensor upgrade?

Hi

I have a few a questions with regards to fitting a later version MAP sensor to my MY95 WRX.

1 - Is it a straight swap or is a new loom/piping etc.
2 - Will I need a new one or is used ok and how much should I pay.
3 - Will the ECU new remapping. (ScoobyECU fitted)
4 - Has anyone done it before and can give me some tips.

I have searched, but no joy.

Cheers
Paul

I bought one secondhand as a replacement, wasn't intended as an upgrage at all.
You can fit it in the same place but you have to cut and join the wires as the connection is different.

The car ran fine with it without a remap

When I eventually got a scoobyecu mapped, the mapper took into account that I had the later map sensor - so it must have been important.

If you are using the standard boost control then you will need to get it remapped. there are a few values in the map that can be altered to cater for the later map sensor.

If you are using a Dawes or mechanical boost controller it should work O.K

The voltage the ECU expects to see for 1 BAR on the original sensor is about 4.5V, the later map sensor only output 3.78V at 1 BAR.

So basically the ECU will try to achieve 4.5V by cranking up the boost control duty (within it's mapped limits). But 4.5V on the later map sensor is going to give you 1.5bar.

I've never tried this and doubt it will achieve it, but expect the boost control, escpecially in the higher gears, will be all over the place.

Before my MY95 had a PFC fitted, it had a MY97 MAP sensor and a custom mapped ScoobyECU to 1.2 bar. So it can be done.

PFC - Apexi Power-FC ECU
ScoobyECU - Depends where it came from and what device/devices were used. Yes it can be remapped if it uses SST devices. The PROM programmer can erase them. If it uses a windowed devices or a single 27C1028 it can be erased with UV light. They may be OTP devices which are One Time Programmable but I doubt these have been uses
