Question Front diff leaking?

Just changed the oil on the car, and had a quick check of stuff while I was under there.
I noticed that what appears to be the front diff (i'm no mechanic - pretty sure it's this though) is covered in oil.

I had a closer look and it's more like thick grease, a bit grey in colour.
There's an undertray which covers it, similar to the front one for the engine, and I didn't take it off, but there's about half an inch of this grease in it.

Doesn't really look as though the diff is leaking

Any ideas what this could be?

Cheers

Sounds llike it could be an inner CV gaitor split and thrown all the grease out of the joint.

BTW, The front diff. is sealed inside the gearbox - If the gearbox was leaking, then you would be seeing oil with a similar consistency to engine oil.

If it's just a split boot, then you will be able to get a replacement boot and a sachet of grease to repack the joint with....About £6 from any motor factors
