Default Lambda or not?

Hi peeps,

I think my Lambda sensor has gone (1995 WRX), symptons listed in other threads are:
1. Lumpy running off boost
2. Increased fuel compumption
3. Hunting revs on idle

My car definately runs rough from 2000 - 2500 rpm, cant just drift along in traffic without it seeming to almost misfire, tap the accelerator though and as soon as more power is applied it is off like a scoob should. If I drive 1 or 2 gears lower (eg in a 30 zone drive in 2nd or maybe 3rd, in a 40 zone in 3rd) there is no problem as the revs are over 3000 and I assume the turbo has kicked in.

I have noticed no change in fuel consumption, around 220 - 230 miles on 45 litres (same consumption when drive like Miss daisy or like a maniac which has puzzled me though). I always get pops from the exhaust between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd, occassionally 3rd/4th also, put that down to just the scoobyECU, full decat and stainless headers though oh, and I like it :-)

I have noticed hunting revs (500 - 2000 range) on some days, but not on others???

Problems seem worse the hotter the car is (eg after a medium / long run as opposed to just to the shops).

I have had the lumpy running and occassional rev hunting for many a month and ruled out plugs, coil packs, MAF, coolant temp sensor, fuel pump through various tests and replacements.

How can I measure the signal from the Lambda to the ECU, and what should it be? I assume my sensor is original (certainly not changed since car entered UK 2.5 yrs ago).

If it has gone is it main dealer all the way or cheaper at GGR or other?

Thanks in advance,
Richard
