Default ECU replacement

I own a 97 uk Impreza and wanted to know if i can replace my ecu with a 96 sti ecu. What differences would i see and is it ok to just drop one in?

no.. ecu for 96 is 4 plug, 97 is 3 plug..

even if you got a 97 sti ecu I wouldn't recommend it as map is different and rev limit too high for uk heads.
