I have been told I have a crank case oil seal leak on my scooby, is this the same as a cam cover gasket leaking ?

No not at all......
The crank cases are in 2 halves which join together.
Maybe look at the cranshaft oil seals ??
Camshats are in your heads matey..Ask whoever to explain or get a better opinion...
