Default Excessive oil from dump valve

Hi all

My scooby recently started depositing a fair bit of oil from the dump valve, i was advised that this may be the turbo seals leaking, so it was removed and sent to AET, they have inspected the turbo and said all is fine other than some slight impact damage and that its more than likely a breather, or possibly an air filter problem?
Is this possible or is there something else that maybe causing this?
The air filter that im currently using is the hks attached to a samco inlet hose.

Thanks again

Andy

Andy,
Most likely it is caused by breather.Fit an oil catch tank but you have to clean up all the ducting and intercooler and there will still be quite an amount of oil accumulated.

Hi Andy,

Got your PM. If AET say the turbo is OK you can take that as read.
There are a number of reasons for oil contaminating the intercooler pipework and it could be one or a combination of the following :
Over filled with oil
Regular over revving
Use of very thin oil
Worn rings or valve stems
Blocked / contaminated breather system

Take the oil filler cap off and see if the engine is "breathing".
Is there any possibility, historically, of any of the above ?
Check through them systematically and remember the top oil level is the top hole and not the top indent.
Let me know how you get on.

I had the same on mine, after a garage put to much oil in on a service. I had an oily deposit coming out of the DV (VTA), this was then inturn going over the engine bay and covering the K&N induction kit. I did get subaru to clean intercooler and pipes (And drop oil level) but they did say it's very hard to get rid of it completely, I stuck the recirc DV back on and cleaned the K&N, all seems ok now.

Harvey, what do you mean by " Take the oil filler cap off and see if the engine is "breathing"? I take mine off and I can feel air popping out, is this normal?

To feel hot air from the oil filler is normal but it should not be pressurising. There should be no signifigant exhaust of oil or fumes/mist.
