Default ECU Reset

I'm thinking of reseting the ECU on my94 STi, is there anything I should do before hand prior to disconnecting the battery. I've heard some theories of booting the car through all gears before a reset, any advice would be appreciated.

i couldnt get my ecu to reset just by disconneting the battery.... (1995 uk car) i had to go under the dash and connect 2 sets of plugs, then connect another 2 which were green, i think!, and drive along for a mile or so until the engine check light started flashing..

you then switch the car off. get back under the dash and disconnect all the plugs.. ecu is then reset..

maybe someone else will advise further
