oil and smoke worries
hello, just got me reddish blue MY98 UK Turbo 2000 with 90419 miles on it. After studdying the well maintained service folder and mod receipts, the previous owner stated he changed the oil to "15w50Mobil1 fully syn.." at 80,139miles.
From a cold start she will put out a little dark smoke tho 10-15 seconds in she seems to be fine (is this normal?)
After reading some oil posts in this forum ive come to the conclusion that this oil is too thick, higher mileage engines like mines would be better suited to 10W50 or so.... right?
maybe he changed the oil to thicker stuff for a reason?, the engine is only slightley modded tho in one of the service printouts the engineer reports some engine noise at cold startup (knock link ok).
can somebody (that knows a bit about this) confirm this for me please so i can get her changed to more suited oil asap, thanks.

There is nothing wrong with a 15w50 rated oil in a scoob, STi have motul 300v 15w50 as their branded oil
Now the part you need to understand, is that if the car has been run on 10w40 all of its life, then changing to a 15w50 wont make much difference, you may as well stick to the 10w40.

It has done 10k or so with the thicker oil only, so im gonna change her to 10w40 asap, most likley couple of weeks when i get her a 90kservice.
