Hi there i have a 1993 WRX and need to replace the lamba sensor on the manifold! i know on the later ones 1997 etc it is on the downpipe but is it the same sensor???
is it like a bonnet vent say, all fit all? or are everone different like most engine parts!
basically Could i put a 1997 sensor on my 1993? or are they different???
Cheers

The Lambda sensor for the 93 WRX is in the headers, next to the oil filter. You can fit any 0-0.9v narrow band lambda sensor. there was a thread on here ages ago which had details of a guy that sells Bosch sensors for about 33 quid. That's what you want. You need a three wire sensor, but a four wire one would be ok too.
If you buy them from subaru you are paying loads for it (About 200 quid I think) and the only benefit is the connector .
If you buy it from API then they are still quite a lot (about 85 quid I think) and you are paying for the benefit of having instructions on which wire to solder with which wire.
If you get a generic 0-0.9v Bosch one then you pay 33 quid but need to know how to connect it up. They all have one signal wire (black) and two heater wires (white). The four wire ones have a grey ground wire.
Your 93 WRX has three wires going to the sensor. I could check mine to be sure but I think the signal wire is red, and the heater wires are black. So you cut off the connector and connect the red wire of the connector to the black signal wire, and the black wires of the connector to the white heater wires. the polarity of the heater wires does not matter. If you have a fourth grey wire from the sensor, this should go to earth.

You wan't the third one down on the link: 11983 (45 quid inc VAT and Postage)

click on subaru and one of the suggested sensors is the 11983. Order from there.
However, I think it would be best to do a search and find that thread I mentioned with the guy selling Bosch sensors for 33 quid or so.
