from what im aware the isnt a motor in the drivers door when the car come in to the country, it something the dealers put on.
so when they put the motor in the is already a sensor in that door which tells the other doors to lock (which already have motors in them).
now i think you will be best taking the door card off and checking that no connections have come loose on the switch/sensor for the other doors
and the motor which the dealer would have put in.
hope that helps

I had one of the 'arms' connecting the motor to the switch go apparantly.
That caused funny things...sometimes all the doors would unlock, sometimes none.
Only a 2 minute job to sort it (car was already in for service or something)

IIRC,all wrx jap imports have the motor incorporated in the locking mechanism including the drivers door. This is because they come with a factory remote central locking.
I have had a similar problem with a my 95 wrx but with mine it would lock but not unlock,it turned out to be the c\l control relay/box (in the ns footwell).
David at API was able to help with another part.
You may have to remove the osf door panel anyway to check that there isnt an aftermarket motor installed to lock the drivers door, alarm fitters will either add this motor or wire direct into the relay box on the ns footwell.
