Default panel filter question

I have a ITG panel filter on my turbo2000 wagon .This is a foam filter with sticky oil on it meant to stop the dust particles.I have read somewhere that imprezas dont like them because the oil can find its way onto a small hot wire in the mass airflow meter confusing the ECU and causing problems. can anyone tell me if this is true or a load of rubish,if true recomend some other panel filters, my only other mod is afull decat sytem.
