Knock sensor

Knock sensor
Last week I had the 'check engine' light come on
The light came on when I was stationary, letting the engine cool down after some hardish driving.
The local dealer had a look and the fault code was the Knock sensor and they think it needs replacing.
Does it sound like a faulty sensor or could it be a problem with the engine?
Has anyone had the same thing happen?
Standard RB5 by the way.

i have a uk99 and i read my fault code by connecting the two green connectors under the dash [code was 21 0r 22 ] so i changed the knock sensor and the fault code didnt come back.
peace of mind as it could have been the cable or connector.
it is very rare for a knck sensor to go though.

Hi,
I had an intermittent CEL on my car MY95 WRX and Triton Motorsport put a laptop on there and it came up with a knock sensor error.
Went to Silverlake and got one funnily enough off an RB5.
No problems since.
